Bismillah,

As announced in class, there is a GEM Shirt Poetry Jam! competition which will take place here and one brother and one sister will win a shirt inshaAllah.

The Rules

1. Contestant must write a poem and post it here in this thread on the forums
2. Poem must be about Rays of Faith
3. Poem must be no longer than 100 words
4. Contestant must be a registered and paid student for Rays of Faith at Wasat Feb 13-15 & 21-22, 2009 in Chicago
5. Two (2) shirts, both signed by Shaykh Waleed Basyouni
6. Poems are due by Fajr time (5:52 am)
7. Select judges will determine the best poem
8. Winners will be determined tomorrow, Sunday February 22nd, 2009 by the judges during class
9. Winning poems will be read off in class by winners (or by Emcee, based on preference of winner).
10. InshaAllah, in the future tense, as Shaykh taught us

What to Submit

• Poem no longer than 100 words in length
• Signed with your real first and last name
• Please write your name as "Br. So-and-So" or "Sr. So-and-So"

Let’s visualize
Pray against demise
That’s right
Salah at night
Isha? Not quite.

Our days numbered
Tongues censored
Forgiveness key
Rasullah (sullahuAlayhiwasalam) imitated to be
Not Johnny Depp of the sea
Or Angelina Jolie
Ouch! How familiarly scary?
Eternally be with ones we see as company!

Lost at sea
As our sails are blown by the winds of confusion
In a world that knows no limits
And keeps no ties to Eternity
We struggle to grow as a flower in the desert
And blossom as the morning star radiates through our veins
Bringing death to life
And life to death
Our Rabb draws near to us
Laying the foundations
Not of stone or mud
But of Truth set by His Will
Constant
Never changing to the whims of our desires
Firm as a beacon across dark depths
So that we may find Paradise
On the shores of His Mercy
