Who are your favourite classical scholars and your favourite contemporary scholars and why?
(I'll put up my selection soon)

Quote:
The norm for the teachers between lessons was to drink, to eat; but Shaykh Al Albaanee wouldn’t do this. He would go where the students were, and they would gather around him. When a fellow professor would pass by him, he would look at him and say this is the real dars. Therefore this level is the outcome of perseverance, the Shaykh was an 'aalim in his da’wah, just as he was an 'aalim in his books. MaashaAllaah tabarakAllaah.

Re: Your favourite scholars?
Favorite Classical Scholar -- Ahmad Ibn Hanbal [رحمة الله عليه]. He was the man!!
And also I would say, Ibn Taymiyyah [رحمة الله عليه] - there was none like him, wallaahi. And then his brilliant superb student - Ibn Al-Qayyim. * As for the contemporary scholars -- I would've said Ibn Baaz, Ibn 'Uthaymeen, Al-Albaani, Ash-Shanqeeti, Ahmad Shaakir, etc [but they have all passed away رحمهم الله جميعا] -- So, I would have 2 say: Abu Ishaaq Al-Huwainy -- He's the master, and the top student of al-Albaani. And actually, before al-Albaani died, he was asked: 'From who should we take hadeeths after you?' He said, Abu Ishaaq. * Furthermore, he's doing a loot of work, regular teachings of Hadeeth sciences, and many many other Islamic sciences! Just check it out on Youtube. On top of this, he also has his own Channel [والحمد لله], all devoted to Islamic Education and Q&A.. ما شاء الله ![]() Then I'd say, Shu'ayb Al-Arnaa'oot [شعيب الأرنؤوط] - master in hadeeth sciences of this time! He has done a loot of tahqeeq and work in the Hadeeth field. * And also, I believe, Al-Albaani also named him as one of the leading authorities in hadeeth after his death. Also 'Umar Al-Ashqar [حفظه الله], for his great books he has authored. And ... btw, I've heard that Shaykh Muhammad Qutb may still be alive, in Makkah. If he is, he is in his late 90's - اللهم احفظه. I personally have benefited tremendously from his wonderful books. Check out some of the names of those books.

Re: Your favourite scholars?
Quote:
Some gems from the life of Shaykh Bin Baz (from previous classes): Yaser Birjas said of Shaykh Bin Baz rahimuhullah, "I never saw him without moving his lips" SubhaanAllah, he would be making dhikr between answering a question and awaiting the next question. He would be making dhikr as they moved him around. And the Shaykh would be making dhikr as someone asked him a question, and then would answer the question fully, maashaAllah. (Heavenly Hues) Shaykh Bin Baz ordered all copies the 'Da'wah' magazine to be pulled back in one edition because they had a fatwa of his in the magazine in which [for the evidences] a statement of Imaam Ahmad was placed before the hadeeth. He wished for the two to be switched– making the ahadeeth first. (Rays of Faith) Nearing the death of Shaykh Bin Baz, someone was putting his shoes on for him and started with the left; he said 'No! – the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam started with his right' – and this was nearing his death, subhaanAllah. (Rays of Faith) There are some people who focus on the little things while forgetting about the big picture, Shaykh Bin Baz (rahimuhullah) was not one of them. He placed great importance on the 'big picture' while still placing importance on the 'little things' as he wanted to emulate the Prophet salallahu 'alayhi wasallam. (Rays of Faith) And as for Shaykh Uthaymeen (regarding some gems relayed in previous classes): He had a very hospitable nature. He would invite the brothers over and cook for them. (Torch Bearers) A story was relayed in which Waleed Basyouni was praying beside Shaykh Uthaymeen and the ground underneath him was very hot, causing pain and agitation. He noticed the garment that the Shaykh was praying on, but didn't dare to place his feet on the garment of the Shaykh. Shaykh Uthaymeen noticed his agitation and extended the garment that he was praying on, so as to make it easy - maashaAllaah. (Torch Bearers) Again, more beautiful stories can be found in the Jewels of Guidance section on Fatwa-Online (or EFatwa) inshaAllaah. May Allaah ta'ala have mercy upon them all. Ameen. Wa Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu
