akhi, I doubt that Sheikh Al-Albaani has complimented him. From what I know, Shu'ayb Al-Arnaa'oot is a Matureedi and Ash'ari and is very biased towards his hanafi madhab. As far as I know, sheikh Al-Albaani never really named anyone as his "successor" in hadith, because there are many rumors that go around, and every person now claims that sheikh Al-Albaani named them as an authority in hadith. If anything, I would think that sheikh Al-Albaani's students, Ali Halabi and Mash-hur are good references and authorities in hadith since they were his students and learned from him.

Allah knows best.

just a piece of info, Sayyid Qutb may Allah have mercy on him wasn't really a scholar, he was a writer and was very good in language and writing books, however, he never officially learned any islamic knowledge, and although he was very excited for islam towards the end of his life, yet the islamic books that he wrote have a lot of things that are wrong in them, and that is due to the fact that he never learned islamic knowledge under any shuyukh, and he wasn't an actual scholar. I am not trying to insult him or belittle him in any way, but just so that people know the truth and don't learn information from the islamic books that he wrote, like the "tafsir" that he wrote "in the shade of the Quran" , and a lot of people think that it is a tafsir while in reality it is just his thoughts and ideas and not an actual tafsir, and that is why it has many mistakes in it and things that are wrong as the scholars have said. Many people don't know and read it thinking that it is a good islamic tafsir of the Quran, so I just want to let people know the truth.

Allah knows best.

Re: Your favourite scholars?

.... I was referring to the great teacher of Ibn `Uthaymeen - Shaykh Muhammad al-Khadir Ash-Shanqeeti (died 1354 A.H. - about 76 years ago). Originially from Mauritania, he learned first from his father who was a well-respected shaykh. He fought against the French colonialists who conquered Mauritania. After the French occupation, Shaykh Ash-Shanqeeti migrated to Madeenah in 1912. He taught at the Prophet's Masjid and he was appointed the Mufti for the Malikis. In 1922, he left to become a judge in Jordan. After some time, he began to travel in order to spread his knowledge. His commentary on Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, "Kauthar al-Maani ad-Daraari fee Kashf Khabaayaa Saheeh al-Bukhaaree" is one of the most extensive commentaries available --- but unfortunately, he was not able to complete that monumental work.

رحمة الله عليـه [May Allaah shower mercy upon him, Aameen]. * So again, this is the scholar I was referring to. He - along with Shaykh `Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sa`di & Ibn Baaz - was one of the top teachers of Shaykh Ibn `Uthaymeen [رحمه الله].

(Brother) Before you make such a big (grave) accusation on someone (especially a scholar of hadeeth) ~ as the Scholars of Islaam have stressed & emphasized ~ you need to have a solid, confirmed, reliable evidence and proof for that. Nothing less than that is acceptable.

So if you're gonna make that claim [that he is a Maatureedi or Ash`ari - and I know that there are rumors about this] (or any claim) against Al-Muhaddith Shu`ayb al-Arnaa'oot -- هاتوا برهانكم - bring forth your proof, if ye are truthful. (In fact, I believe I remember ... recently reading something online, by the Shaykh - it was رد الشيخ شعيب الأرنؤوط على أشعري - Shaykh Shu`aib al-Arna`oot refuting the Ash`ariyyah...)

Shaykh Shu`ayb al-Arna'oot[حفظه الله] is a contemporary author whose family moved from Albania to Damascus, where he was born in 1928 (About 81 years ago). (Subhaanallaah ~ compare his early life to that of Shaykh Al-Albaani. So similar! Subhanallaah. Al-Albaani's family also moved from Albania to Damascus. And in Damascus, Al-Albaani completed his early education, and was taught Quraan, Tajweed, Arabic sciences, Hanafi Fiqh, and so on.) He is one of the leading authorities in hadeeth today. Among his most important works is a complete critical rendition of Ibn Hibbaan`s Saheeh. He, with a team of scholars, is currently publishing a critical edition of Imaam Ahmad`s Musnad.(And I believe that it is now available, wallaahu a'lam.)

+ The scholar you referred to, Shaykh Mash-hoor Hasan Salmaan, is also a great scholar, but I don't know of any works specifically related to the fields of hadeeth (or Major Hadeeth Works) by him.

Fyi ~ he was born in Palestine about 50 years ago (in 1380 A.H.). His family moved to Jordan and he joined the Sharee`ah College & studied fiqh and its principles. * His teachers include Muhammad Naasir ad-Deen al-Abaani and Mustafa az-Zarqaa. .... And he is the author or editor of over 100 books, which include some of the classical works of past scholars, including Shaatibi's Muwaafaqaat. [حفظه الله]
--------------------------------

So please note brother, that Shaykh Shu`ayb al-Arna'oot has really done a LOT of work particularly in the area of Tahqeeq. * Please - for more info. regarding the Shaykh & many of his incredible works, go to the below link:

Exclamation Re: Your favourite scholars?

So Shaykh Al-Albaani one time was asked some questions. And this is mentioned by Shaykh `Abdullaah Ibn Adam Al-Albaani [he writes] -- in the winter of the year 1410 (like 20 years ago), Shaykh Al-Albaani visited us in our house, and he was asked a lot of questions. I recall from them the following question:

"O Shaykh, who do you see most befitting from the Mashaayikh, that we should seek knowledge of hadeeth from, after your departure (in sha Allah after a long life)?" He said: "There is an egyptian Shaykh, his name is Abu Ishaaq Al-Huwainy. He came to us in `Umaan some time back. And I spoke with him... and I feel that he is with us, in terms of proficiency and qualification in this knowledge [of hadeeth sciences]."

So I asked the Shaykh, "Then who?" He said, "Shaykh Shu`ayb Al-Arna'oot." I said, "Then who?" And he said, "Shaykh Muqbil bin Haadi Al-Waadi'ee."
