what is ehsan?

So any ideas on what ehsan is?

Are there different levels to it?

How does a Muslim achieve it?

How does a person sustain this level?

From the second hadith of Imam Nawawi's 40, narrated by Umar R re: visit by Jibreel provides the best definition of Ihsan.

Ihsan is to worship Allah, as though you see Him
and if you can't (do this) then know that He sees you.

It's a reflection of excellence in worship. It's literal meaning is to 'beautify'.

Ehsaan is to have understanding and awareness of the existence of ALLAH at all times, implying Tawheed and Taqwa at all times... it is to submit in the worship of ALLAH, with pure sincerity. in addition it is to conduct your self in all affairs at the best of your ability, according to the QURAAN and SUNNAH, and to know at all times that Allah is watching you, hearing you etc....

The different stages of it are:

MUSLIM < MUHMIN < MOHSIN
