Yea. A brother got in touch with one of the main organizers and he didn't know anything about it. Phew that was a close one. (I hate rumors)

Re: Muslims United for Change - The Fight against Malaria in Africa
“Knowledge calls out to action. If action responds, knowledge remains. If action does not respond, knowledge leaves.” – Shaykh Yasir Qadhi. Qabeelat Barakah’s first project: “NETS FOR LIFE: THE FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA” Malaria is one of the developing world’s most deadly diseases, with 247 million new cases every year, that’s a new case every 2 seconds! 40% of all hospital admissions and 60% of all outpatient appointments in Africa are due directly to malaria or the consequences of malaria. 3000 children under the age of 5 die every day from malaria. All of this is despite the fact that the spread of malaria is preventable. We are supporting Doctors Worldwide (DWW), a charity dedicated to the provision of comprehensive medical relief worldwide, in the fight against malaria in Congo. Congo is located in central Africa and has a population of 56 million. Katanga Province, where DWW have a structured programme of sustained development, has a population of 7.2 million, of which 1.5 million are children under the age of 5. Please visit the DWW website to see the brilliant work they are doing in Congo: www.doctorsworldwide.org/africa/congo. Our aim is to raise £3000 to donate 1000 insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets, at a cost of £3 per net, to the people of Katanga Province, Congo in an effort to help prevent the spread of malaria. Although each mosquito net only costs £3, it has the potential to save the lives of a whole family! When insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets are used properly by three-quarters of the people in a community, malaria transmission is cut by 50%, child deaths are cut by 20%, and the mosquito population drops by as much as 90%. QBarakah sisters are climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales on 4th July 2010 in an effort to raise sponsorship for the project. Please support “Nets For Life: The Fight Against Malaria” and help save lives by donating online to this fantastic cause at www.justgiving.com/QBarakahTheBlessedTribe. By donating through Justgiving, gift aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So please dig deep and donate now. Jazakallah khair. |
