The Divine Link: Fiqh of Salah
Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah Ya Qabeelat’l-Shams!
I hope you guys are enjoying Ramadhan so far and making the most of it bi’ithnillah. I also wanted to give you folks a heads-up on the Divine Link insha’Allah. I hope you’re looking forward to it as much as I am – and if you haven’t signed up already then prepare to be eaten for sehri. Well, what did you expect? That’s all aloo parathi are good for right? ![]() With respect to Salah, I think it’ll be useful to reflect on the various issues you are going through at the moment so that you have more to ask and enquire about when we get together in October. In the UK we have a variety of issues to reflect upon such as the differing times of iftar and suhoor which from a fiqhi angle is the Fajr and Maghrib time. And what about the current controversy on what the exact time of ‘Isha is at the moment? I asked my own Masjid to set ‘Isha for 9.50pm whereas the popular Didsbury Masjid in Manchester has ‘Isha at the moment at 10.45pm! And only a few weeks ago (and something which will only get worse in the years to come) Tarawih would start straight after Maghrib prayers! What about your Imam and their performance? Are they fulfilling the various conditions of Salah whilst they speed through the Qur’an? Are YOU fulfilling your conditions? What are those conditions? And as you hear the Qur’an, are you benefitting from it as much as you’d like to? Are you actually making that Divine Link during your Salah? I’d like you all to reflect upon your prayers in this month of prayer so that your studies become doubly beneficial insha’Allah. Finally, there were some queries about how I’d be approaching the legal side of this course. The answer is that I hope to cover the opinions of not only all the four Madha’hib but the other major Imams in our legal history. But I will be focusing on two Madhabs in particular: the Hanafi and Hanbali. The Hanafi because despite being probably the largest and most established legal school, it is the one most disrespected amongst the youth of the Islamic revival at the moment. Once students recognise the strength and excellence of this school – and then spread that amongst their communities - I think it’ll work wonders for the strength and unity in our society for the future insha’Allah. The Hanbali because it is my personal choice and favourite, and more in line with the renewed interest in the Athari school of ‘aqidah and fiqh in recent times. Regardless of all that, everyone will be catered for and everyone will – by the tawfiq of Allah jalla wa ‘ala – benefit hugely from this great course insha’Allah. See you all soon and have a great Ramadhan. And focus big-time on your Salah folks. And don’t forget us in your du’as as well! AE |

Re: The Divine Link: Fiqh of Salah
Wa Alaikum Assalamu Warahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
I'm drooling here.....why did you have to mention Aloo Paratha with five hours of fasting to go yet!? lol The course sounds amazing and alhamdulillah sounds like it will be well rounded touching upon the accepted differences between the various schools of thought. I think this really is important as Salah and the way it is carried out is quite a contentious issue amongst different groups especially in the UK and even London in particular. For some the fiqh opinions followed in the methodology of Salah has become so rigid that it's treated like 'aqeedah. I had takfeer made upon me in Lahore one time for doing Raf' Yadain. They were about to do an Inzamam on me, without any "aloo" comments being made it was no joke lol. I for one would definently like to learn more about Hanafi fiqh of Salah minus the fanaticism, having been taught and raised almost exclusively on Hanbali opinions. Doubt i'll be moving my hands from the chest any time soon though! lol This will definently be one of the most beneficial courses as regardless the subject, a large portion of any Q&A session is related directly to the Fiqh of Salah. A lot of notes will be taken inshaAllah without doubt and I pray that everyone does nothing but benefit from it and we walk away with a more holistic view of the issue of Salah bi-idhnillahi ta'aala. On a completely different note......praying behind Shuraim in the 90s......THAT was a divine link and a half!

Re: The Divine Link: Fiqh of Salah
I'm soo happy to see this post, and yet so sad that it comes when most of the QShams students (rightly so) are not checking the forums as much as they were last week.
Having been raised with the basics of Hanafi fiqh of salah, and later learning and adopting most of my viewpoints from the hanabila, I am really looking forward to know how exactly the shafiyyah and maalikiyyah come to their conclusions, and the way they interperate the evidences for their relative positions. I also think that given the knock on effects that salah has in ramadhan when the masjids are packed, I would love to learn how the differences in witr, differences in the way sujud as sahwa is performed and the reasons for the differences. I would also love to know the daleel for the eid salah (6 takbeerats vs the 7 in first and 5 in second rakat), and the summer usual of praying isha'a with maghrib, and the effect that has in the calculation of the time for the last third of the night. Lastly, I would love to be able to explain to my mum why our adhan clock has 4 different settings showing different times for fajr, asr and isha adhans! Actually, that is quite a long list! I think I speak for a lot of people that this course is essential! only problem is we're are selling out much faster than I anticipated, so if you haven't paid, I would highly recommend that you do so NOW. |

^^^Jazaakallahu khayr Shaykhanna for the intro!
As much as I'm interested in all the rulings and their respective daleel, I am looking forward to the spiritual side of the course inshaAllah. I'd love my khushoo3 level to go up a notch or 2. And for all the non-desi's here and at the course inshaAllah, I've got a feeling that our Urdu is going to improve aswell..right? aloo parathi et all..... ![]()

Re: The Divine Link: Fiqh of Salah
JazakhAllah Khair for the heads up shaykh....am sooo excited about this course....because its getting back to basics and we think we know something but in fact dont....so many questions about salah when travelling (whats the distance), the moving of the index finger during tashaddud.....i got murked by an aunti ji in the mosque for doing that...and then also sajda sahw.
It will be interesting to study the viewpoint of the different madhabs as i was raised praying the hanafi way. But more importantly the essence of the course....establishing that Divine Link....thats what its alll about..... InshAllah cant wait!!! The Messenger of Allah (Subhana Wa Ta'ala) said:" When you stand up to pray, perform your prayer as if it were your last" (Ahmad)

Re: The Divine Link: Fiqh of Salah
Questions, questions....
How do you teach someone to pray? Can you recite the entire salah out loud? Is it permissible for children to lead each other in salah, and what about girls leading boys? Can you join Maghrib with Isha in summer once in a while if you're feeling particularly tired... Just some of the many questions that I have, and I'm sure you all have more to add to the growing list. We look forward to you teaching us Shaykh, and pray that you're having a blessed Ramadan. JazakAllah Khair. |
