Eating/Drinking Najas?

asSalaam'alaykum wa Rahamtullah,

Was there anything in any of the classes mentioned if it is permissible/impermissible to eat/drink najas?

or would this just fall under the mustakhbath argument?

I dotn remmeber learning this in Purification Act (I took it, wow!, 4-5 years ago)

It might sound like a weird question like, "Why would you do that?"

1. For those who consider blood najas, then sucking your own blood after getting pricked or cut. Most kids do that and I'll admit it, I used to do it too, still put my finger in my mouth if I cut myself.

2. For Muslim couples that do/want to practice oral sex then the issue of swallowing semen(generally includes prostatic, semina fluid, and sperm) or female sexual ejaculate.

Allahu'Alam

Re: Eating/Drinking Najas?

as salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
bismillah walhamdulillah wassalaatu wassalaam 'ala rasulillah,

The only thing my notes and the official Hosna notes indicate about actually eating najaasa is if an animal's, e.g. a chicken, diet consisted of mostly najis, then we're not allowed to eat it. The scholars differed as to how much of its diet needed to be najis for it to be considered haraam, but Yasir Qadhi stated that even if it eats minute amounts of najis it is still halal.

In addition to that, you can refer to these ayaat to determine the ruling on eating filth:

"Made lawful to you this day are At-Tayyibat..." (5:5)

"O mankind! Eat of that which is lawful and good (tayyib) on the earth, and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan)." (2:168)

"...he allows At-Tayyibat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods), and prohibits Al-Khaba'ith" (7:157)

With regards to blood being najis, I myself haven't heard of that being the case. Any information you may have on this will be helpful. All I know is that if blood flows from a wound, you'll have to do wudhoo.

As for sexual discharge, I recall in the Purification Act that Abdul Bary Yahya stated that whatever gushes is pure, for both men and women. As for what doesn't gush, it is najis. As for getting it in or around your mouth, the rulings I heard range from keeping it completely away from your mouth to its ok so long as you don't swallow it and you clean yourself thereafter. I've asked many haha.

jazakum Allahu khairan,
wassalaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
'Abdil Kareem

“O people, spread salaam, give food, and pray when the people are sleeping; you will enter Paradise in peace and safety.”

That's very problematic considering modern farming practices...

Baaraka Allahu feekum all.

This opinion that you mentioned above that blood breaks your wudhoo, then this is one of the several opinions on the matter, and it is not the strongest. There is no evidence that blood breaks your wudhoo, so it seems like the strongest opinion is that blood does not break your wudhoo, as there are several proofs from authentic narrations that the companions who were praying when they were injured and blood came out of them, and they prayed without making wudhoo again, like when Umar bin khattab was praying and he was stabbed, and so he started bleeding and blood coming from his wound, yet he completed his prayer and did not stop to go make wudhoo again. I think the only exception is the blood of menses/after giving birth which is considered najas.

Now back to the original topic of this thread, as for blood, then the strongest opinion is that it is not considered najas, however I don't know the ruling on sucking your finger and eating the blood that comes out, since blood is one of the things that Allah has forbidden for us (to eat), but I don't know if it applies to sucking on your finger and eating the blood coming out from it. As for semen, then I think semen (Maniyy) is considered pure, however, you have to check and ask about the details of oral sex and what fluids come out because some fluids are najas while others are pure, so even if semen itself is pure, other stuff that come out with it might not be pure and might be considered najas. Maybe one of the shuyukh can let us know of the rulings of this?

Re: Eating/Drinking Najas?

Assalamu Alaikum.

1. I think the issue regarding blood is solved, but if there are any doubts, the following "narration" should suffice:

“O ‘Ammaar, garments should be washed in five cases: stools, urine, vomit, blood and semen.”

This is a weak Hadith. See Muhammad Subhi Bin Hassan Hallaq's comments regarding this narration in Fiqh According to the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Al-Nawawi said in al-Majmoo’ (2/549): This hadeeth of ‘Ammaar was narrated by Abu Ya’la al-Mawsili in his Musnad and by al-Daaraqutni and al-Bayhaqi. Al-Bayhaqi said: it is a false hadeeth with no basis. Al-Daraaqutni and al-Bayhaqi stated that it is da’eef (weak). End quote.

Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

My inclination concerning this matter is to say that the basic principle is that wudoo’ is not invalidated unless there is proof in sharee’ah, and there is no proof in this case. End quote.

If bleeding breaks ablution, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would have informed us of this.

2. (a) Semen is pure.

“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to remove maniy from his garment with a twig of adhkhar (a kind of tree), then pray in that garment, and he would rub it from his garment once it was dry, and would pray in the same garment.” Ibn Khuzaymah reported it in his Saheeh, and Shaykh al-Albaani classed it as hasan in al-Irwa’ (1/197).

The semen wasn't washed.

(b) Oral sex is forbidden (Haram) by the Lawgiver. Do we know where such an action originated from? The evil ones. It is universally considered as wrong. For example, the Christian scholar Thomas Aquinas condemned it.

Sheikh Al-Albani was asked regarding this matter, and he said:

"I will respond to the likes of this question by saying:

This is from the actions of some of the animals such as the dogs . . ."

Note: we are forbidden to imitate animals.

See the full response:

http://fatwa-online.com/fataawa/marr...03/0091016.htm

Subhan-Allah, when I hear about the people who perform such acts, I think that they are influenced by what they what they see in films praising the action of pornography.

Such an act destroys the value of moral conduct between husband and wife. In addition, the purpose of the reproductive organs is abused, which Allah has provided us for enjoyment.

And a research conducted found the following:

Certain cases of mouth cancer appear to be caused by a virus that can be contracted during oral sex, media reported, quoting a new Swedish study.
People who contract a high-risk variety of the human papilloma virus, HPV, during oral sex are more likely to fall ill with mouth cancer, according to a study conducted at the Malmo University Faculty of Odontology in southern
Sweden.

"You should avoid having oral sex," dentist and researcher Kerstin Rosenquist, who headed the study, told Swedish news agency TT.

HPV is a wart virus that causes many cervical cancers, including endometrial cancer (in the uterus).

Allah orders us not to destroy ourselves. Such an action is forbidden.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalamu Alaikum.
