Insha'Allah we are bringing back a classic seminar, and one of my personal favorites!  The Code Evolved: Evolution of Fiqh Click here for seminar description This seminar was originally taught in New Jersey in September 2004; it was our 4th class here, and our first experience with Shaykh Yaser Birjas, who has been greatly loved by all the students ever since! So much confusion was cleared up about the madhabs, where they came from, the history and differences between them, the concepts of critical vs. blind following, and much much more! I can honestly say: This class put all Fiqh classes in perspective for me, and truly allowed me to benefit from discussions on Fiqh differences between various scholars. It is needed for all Muslims in these times, when we hear so much controversy over issues that would become much simpler if we understood the differences between the schools and how to approach them. I cannot wait to take it again, and to have Shaykh Yaser back with us again! Jan. 22-24 & 30-31, 2010 Jan 22nd is Free Friday (no registration required, bring all guests!) Q: I already registered for the November version of the class, do I have to register again?A: Yes, because this is counted as a completely different class from a registration perspective. So please proceed to the Enroll page and register for the January 2010 version of this class. Q: I already paid for the November class with IlmRush 2009 card, will my payment still count? A: Unfortunately, since this class is in 2010, the IlmRush 2009 card payment will not count. You have to re-register for this class. However, some good news from HQ -- IlmRush 2010 card will be available soon insha'Allah! Q: I already paid for the November class by credit card or check, can I transfer payment? What if I can no longer take the class on the new dates? subhanAllah.. as excited as i am for not getting a break from all this ilm (starting with ilmfest), we're... barely even getting a break! Allahu Akbar
before i cast my vote, i just wanted to hear the opinion of what seemed to be the majority of the class who voted for the split weeked.. i'd never imagine someone vote that way, but many many many did.. so.... does it have to do with papers and exams in that 13-15 week or what? also i know only a small percentage of students takes classes in both durbah AND tayybah (maybw 5%? 10? all the ilmrush students at least).. so this issue shouldn't be a deciding factor but does anyone know when tayybah's next class is? i know overlaps have happened in the past (wasn't there one at your ROF and our LUL?).. but i'd just really prefer to benefit from both qabaail while i'm able.. so if tayybah's class will be the 4-6 weekend (i believe it's a one weekend this time), then i'm going to vote choice A. holding off for now.

Some reasons I voted second option: 1) Time difference from Heart Serene is more, to get enough time for good venue and to give volunteers a break and get recharged 2) Leaving enough studying time for Heart Serene exam and study sessions 3) Split weekend format gives people a break in the middle, is a nice alternative to two straight weekends once in a while just my two cents

Now perhaps this has changed, but logically seeing that Fiqh of Love ends Nov. 1st in Tayybah, I don't think they will have another class anytime before Dec. 11-13 anyway, whether one or two weekend. The same factors of exam date and venue search come into play.

In most recent years, it hasn't really snowed much. We may have a few inches, usually around Jan or Feb. But it would be very rare to have it in end of Nov. or early Dec. 10 years ago that was different, but now we have very little compared to then.

It doesn't matter to me. My dua has been answered and this class and YB are coming back, alhamdulillah. I'm not going to be picky about dates.

The earlier dates work better in terms of not being too close to Tayybah's final seminar (a 1 weekend seminar in the 2nd week of December, inshaAllah)

Have to agree with Nadeem on this one. If Durbah and Tayybah classes keep on overlapping or are scheduled back to back, people start getting frustrated (I am using that term lightly) for giving up their precious weekends. The result: they start choosing between the Qabaail for convenience.
Quite a few AlMaghrib regulars decided to skip "NJ - Heart Serene" for "NY - Fiqh of Love" and a significant others are opting only for the NJ class because of time and social constraints. We definitely need some break between the two, upcoming NJ/NY classes. Remember, they are both close to the last and hectic month (December) for college-going students.

Though I am all for helping out those who take NY/NJ classes, please keep the majority in mind who don't take the NY classes.
Before we worry about having enough time in between to take a Tayybah class, let's worry about having enough time between the classes to take the Durbah classes in sha Allah. Just my 2 cents.
