The sun streamed through a kitchen window in a house on a quiet English street. The shouts of children playing in the distance floated in, mixing comfortably with the smells that wafted up from the pots, as the mother sprinkled her final garnishes lightly over the top.
A young girl sat on the kitchen unit kicking her heels lightly (because hardly wasn't allowed) against the doors.
"Shall we see who can get the most trees in jannah before lunch?" said her mum glancing back at her.
And that was a very good idea indeed, so in the next few minutes, they made the angels work very hard planting trees for their garden.
"What kind of trees are you having planted?" asked mama.
"Ummm" thought the little girl aloud. "Probably apples and pears," before adding, "and mango trees like they have in India," and she tried to remember the tastes of the different types of mangos that she had been taught, did she prefer kesar or rajapuri or langra... or the little cute ones that you had to roll and then poke a hole in before sucking out the sweet pulp? But they were so difficult to eat, syrupy orange trickles and stickiness between her fingers...
"What about strawberries?" suggested mama
"But strawberries don't go on trees!" said the little girl, because she was quite a clever little girl and remembered the long summer days spent strawberry-picking, pastel pinafores stained with red and cleaning jelly sandals.
"Well they can in jannah if you like." said her mum, "You can have whatever you want there; anything from your imagination!"
"Even chocolate bar trees?" she asked, because she wasn't quite sure that she had understood right. Sometimes adults said things that didn't make sense but then they didn't like it when you kept asking questions. Perhaps she would ask her dad, because he always knew the answers to everything; like why there was sometimes one yellow line on the road, and sometimes two, but never three, or a half, or lines and dots like the Morse code that he had told her about.
"Even chocolate bar trees." replied her mum.
"Even lollipop trees?" she asked incredulously
"Even lollipop trees" replied her mum, smiling.
"Wow," she breathed (and then quickly added "subhanAllah" because that would be an extra lollipop tree).
And wow it was indeed.

Every time she would do dhikr, she'd remember what her mum had said, and mentally remind the angels which trees exactly they had to plant for her. The lollipop trees were replaced by others more wonderful, and she made sure she kept her angels on their toes (or was it wings, she wasn't quite sure). She particularly liked the strawberry and cream trees, where there was just the right amount of cream on the strawberries, and the cold cream had just been poured onto them, drops suspended in the air, just there, until you wanted it in your mouth. Or the promegranite and ice-cream trees which were just yummy, and the ferrero rocher and toffee-apple trees. Or the trees of the little Viennese fingers which mama would make for Eid, and despite her protests to leave some for the mehman, they'd be gone before their sore eyes even set sight on them.

But she did so like the lollipop trees, because everyone likes lollipops, even adults (although they sometimes pretend they don't and say they're bad for your teeth), and so when everyone would come to her jannah, there'd be enough lollipops for seconds, and because it was jannah, nobody would have to brush their teeth or go to the dentist. And it was a good thing that it was real and not a fairy tale, she thought to herself, or lollipops would have become stale or too sticky by the time everyone reached there. It would be just like The Enchanted Wood, but with lots of Magic Faraway Trees, and no Land of Dame Slap, and probably not a Land of Birthdays too, because they didn't celebrate birthdays, but perhaps they would in jannah, or maybe it would just be a land of Eids? She must remember to ask somebody about that.

As the years passed, and the little girl grew up, slowly, things changed. She began to think like an adult instead of a child, and lollipop trees were no longer so important in her life. Eventually, the angels went back to sporadically planting apple and pear trees (because that is the default for English people), and if there ever were specific requests, they were few and far between; prompted perhaps by the sight of the first daffodil in spring, or one of mama's hanging baskets, or the particularly large chrysanthemum in thulian pink standing tall and proud in her sister's window.

---

Over 15 years later, four young women sat on plastic chairs at the top of a flight of stairs (at least 30 Allahu akbar lollipop trees up) in a sports college eating their lunch. The sun streamed through the window, mixing comfortably with the happy chatter of friends over food. Another young woman passed in her travels, offering them blueberries and strawberries as she floated by. One of them picked out a strawberry, and as she took a bite, half a straberry clinging precariously on a green stalk, suddenly a mosaic of memories flashed before her eyes.

How long had she neglected her garden? And what of her lollipop trees, and the angels, long tired of planting apple trees?

When had she stopped believing in lollipop trees?

And more importantly, when did you stop believeing in lollipop trees?

So the four companions held hands and made a pact. We believe in lollipop trees.

Do you?

Give an angel something to do

Ibn Mas`ud reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "I met Ibrahim on the Night of Ascension (Al-Asra), and he said to me: `O Muhammad, convey my greetings to your Ummah, and tell them that Jannah has a vast plain of pure soil and sweet water. It is a plain levelled land. The plants grow there by uttering: Subhan-Allah, Al-hamdu lillah, La ilaha illallah and Allahu Akbar (Allah is free from imperfection; praise be to Allah; there is no true god except Allah; and Allah is Greatest).'' [Tirmidhi].

The words most beloved to Allah

سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ - the best thing you can come with on the Day of Judgement

سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ الْعَظِيمِ وَ بِحَمْدِهand some palm tree

لا حَوْلَ وَ لا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللّهِfrom the treasures of jannah

two words which are light on the tongue, heavy in the balance, and beloved to Al-Rahman

...and so many more, so much to be planted and prepared before you come.

Your garden waits for you, angels poised - try and give them something to do.

Does that make you smile? Well, lollipop trees should be shared. Whoever guides to a good deed gets the same reward [Sahih Muslim] so if you remind 5 people today to say سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ SubhanAllah 100 times [ = 1000 good deeds, 1000 bad deeds wiped away each], that will equal to 5000 good deeds and 5000 bad deeds wiped away, and if they each remind 3 people, that will equal to ... ad infinatum.

And don't forget; better than all the lollipop trees and whatever you can imagine:
فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَّا أُخْفِيَ لَهُم مِّن قُرَّةِ أَعْيُنٍ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do [al-Sajdah:17]
