Seminar Description

We always hear the term 'Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'ah'. The early Muslim generations' most common advice was to hold onto the Sunnah and the Jamaa'ah. So, what are these things? This seminar will give an in-depth discussion of these two fundamental issues which we believe distinguish the methodology of orthodox Islam from other sects and groups. We found that the topics discussed in this class provide the framework that puts together the bits and pieces of knowledge regarding the Islamic Creed thereby forming a complete picture that's beauty and perfection can be fully appreciated.

When we examined the history of Islamic Theology, we found that the first causes of division and heresy were based on a poor understanding of the issues that will be covered in this class. To ensure that the bases of innovation are eliminated from the minds and hearts of the Muslim Ummah today, we are enthusiastic about discussing these issues with our students.

The Concept of Iman and What Opposes It
The reality of Iman and its categories. The various interpretations regarding 'iman' that groups have posited throughout our history. The increasing and decreasing of Iman and the reasons behind it. The levels of Iman and the concept of Taqwa and the Wilayah of Allah.

The meaning of Islam VS Iman and the difference between general and specific Islam

The rights of the believers towards one another

The Concept of Fisq, its definition and its categories, comparison between the understanding of fisq according to various groups and sects, rulings related to dealing with a fasiq,

The concept of kufr, it's definition, its categories, the guidelines for takfir (applying the title of kafir to an individual), and the rulings related to dealing with non-Muslims

The concepts of Al-Walaa' and Al-Baraa' and how to apply them in our contemporary lives.
Holding onto the Sunnah and the Jamaa'ah
The Concept of Sunnah
An in depth study of the sunnah; its definition and usages, its legal status, the obligation to honor the hadeeth of the prophet, Ahaad hadeeth and their status, the position and refutation of those who reject the sunnah and the ruling regarding the rejection of Sunnah

The Concept of the Sahabah
The definition of a sahabi, the levels of the sahaba and our position towards them

The ruling regarding cursing the Sahabah

Our position regarding the fitnah (wars) that happened between the companions

The sunnah of the companions, its legal status, and the rulings related to following it, the merits of following the methodology of the companions, and the position of various sects and groups regarding following the methodology of the early Muslim generations.

The Concept of AlJama’ah
It’s meaning, usages, evidences pertaining to it; misconceptions surrounding it. The differences between tangible and intangible jamaa'ah. The concepts of Khilaafah and Imaamah, their definitions; categories of imaamah; goals of imaamah and ways of establishing it. Holding on to the Jamaa'ah while living in a non-Muslim country

The Concept of Bid’ah
Its definition, types and legal ruling, a detailed discussion of the concept of 'good bid'ah', who is considered a mubtadi' (innovator), rulings regarding dealing with innovators and an in depth analysis of the concept of Al-Hajr (boycotting)

The title of this seminar definitely won't be
