eating what the dog catches

salam, there was recently a question i was asked and its been puzzling me for a long time, and i was wondering if anyone else was asked the same question and would kindly share their research.

the question is regarding the verse (5:4), where Allah gives us permission to eat of that which the dog catches from hunting. the question i was asked is if Allah allows us to eat what is caught by the dog, then how would that fit with the hadith where the Prophet (pbuh) told us that the saliva of a dog is najas, and according to this hadith it wouldn't be allowed for us to eat it?

jazak Allahu khair
