If you give a ritual deed (salah, zakkat, etc) and expect that other than Allah will will take it and except it, this is SHIRK!

When you make dua to other than Allah you have just made Shirk in all 3 Categories which are:
a) Rubbubiyya
b) Uluhiya
c) Assma Wa-Siffat

Since Dua is the most common type of worship it is also the most common type of shirk
