I believe the cost of Deen Intensive on Imaam Nawawi's life was around $225 ($375 with accomodation), correct me if I'm wrong...Don't mean to pitt one org against another as they both have a "totally" different method/approach to teaching.

Also, if you would remember, Zaytuna had a fund-raising the same weekend with the title, "Where then are you going?" at a Banquet Hall....so that's there method of balancing the cost.

Just doing simple things here (like making photocopies at Kinkos) can just add the costs up like nothing!! Let alone, printing the cards, flyers, banners, tickets, booking halls, hotels, rental, fuel, general advertising, FOOD! etc.....this is the first time I'm involved in an effort to organize an Islamic Event (The Gold Rush Promo that is ) , and subhanAllah I TRULY APPRECIATE the works and the efforts that go behind arranging these events....so next time, I'm sure I'll think a 100 times before I start bargaining for an Islamic CD or discount on an Islamic Event.

And Allah Knows Best.

So glad to hear this, MAsha'Allah. It kind of upsets me that MUSLIMS are so cheap (even if they are filthy rich) when it comes to Islamic events or buying Islamic goods...whereas they would GLADLY pay 5$ for a small cup of cofee at Starbucks every morning....

Its kinda like the parents that seek "financial aid" at Islamic schools to cover the cost of "high tuition" and then drive off in their Mercedes Benz....

Where are our priorities?

Assalamualaikum,

I know exactly what you mean. I think it's a known fact that Muslims are cheap. They are always looking for discounts on Islamic goods, like Jilbaabs! For crying out loud, I'm sure they don't make such a fuss when they buy a shirt from Wal-Mart!

It also goes for the fact that Islamic Studies always seems so expensive, yet they can go on loans and pay for their kid's tuition at Univ. It's really annoying and sad at the same time. They act like Bani Israeel.

Re: Why are Classes So Expensive???

As-salaamoualaikoum,

Jezakum Allahu khairan to all especially to Ustaadh for all the wonderful input.
Insha'Allah, I will have my friend take a look at this thread insha'Allah so she can perhaps respond to me through msn.

VERY VERY VERY Gooood points masha'Allah. Injaad. Thank you shukran, Allahumma yikhalikoum, ameen.

*The apple pic and analogy is still open for sooo many interpretations...It could also mean that This is America, ya3ni the fruit of opportunity lies here(which is true in some ways, but ofcourse in others not--like I don't find there is any barakah in things such as time....but barakah in the fact that Islam is spreading so quickly here subhanAllah, but otherwise, my intentions are not to settle here in darul harb).
Also it could mean, that it's the shaytaan's temptation(fitnah) to the world(America) just like the apple was to Adam 3leyhi salaam) .

INTERESTING Brother Abu Mish Mish, could you kindly let us all know what you were meaning with the Apple pic and analogy...I'm extremely curious, perhaps I'm reading into that to much, and I'm sure its annoyingly so simple like a math equation. Jezak Allah khair.

Re: Why are Classes So Expensive???

Regarding my earlier post.

Everyone knows that America is about looks. I don't believe anyone would try to deny or counterclaim my statement. So, you can sell your work if you do a good job on presenting it. Irregardless of how good your work is, I tried it myself and it worked.

Look at that apple - It's red, shiny and just the perfect size for your hand. Not too small, not too big. Just perfect. Everyone will assume it's a good apple, without even tasting it. It may be even rotten, and people wouldn't even know.

And who pays for the good looks? The customer.

Same thing with AlMaghrib - It comes with alot of glamour, which explains their sucess in North America, ma sha Allaah, So this is the culture. I will not mention any negativity, but just look around you at the average American. ... the glamour comes with a cost and it's not only in dollars.

Although I was born in the country and all - I didn't live here for a whole lot. So for me, America is an apple, a nice shining apple.

Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.

We just see things diffrently. That's all.

Wa 'alaykum as salaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu

I don't have anything to add to the main purpose of this thread.

I wanted to comment on the above statement. From what I learnt and Allaah knows best, what Adam 'alayhis salaam exactly ate is not mentioned in the Qur'aan or Sunnah. Wallaahu 'Alam.

Here is something from www.tafsir.com

Allah's statement to Adam,

[وَلاَ تَقْرَبَا هَـذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ]

(but come not near this tree) is a test for Adam. There are conflicting opinions over the nature of the tree mentioned here. Some said that it was the grape tree, barley, date tree, fig tree, and so forth. Some said that it was a certain tree, and whoever eats from it will be relieved of the call of nature. It was also said that it was a tree from which the angels eat so that they live for eternity. Imam Abu Ja`far bin Jarir said, "The correct opinion is that Allah forbade Adam and his wife from eating from a certain tree in Paradise, but they ate from it. We do not know which tree that was, because Allah has not mentioned anything in the Qur'an or the authentic Sunnah about the nature of this tree. It was said that it was barley, grape, or a fig tree. It is possible that it was one of those trees. Yet, this is knowledge that does not bring any benefit, just as being ignorant in its nature does no harm. Allah knows best.'' This is similar to what Ar-Razi stated in his Tafsir, and this is the correct opinion. - Tafseer Soorah al-Baqarah - Ibn Kathir

BaarakAllaahu Feekum.

I just thought of something....maybe it won't be correct to keep bringing up AOU's name and its cost structure in reference to AlMaghrib. [I know I have been guilty of that] I'm sure the AOU board would not like this constant comparison as they have their own fee structure and cost issues.

AlHamdulillah its awesome for the AOU Board of Directors to approve AlMaghrib courses for a credit by them, inshaAllah we should be perhaps more careful.
