Isam Rajab, new member!

As-salamu 'alaykum shaykh!

I have a quick question that maybe you'll be able to anwer.

Why do they call Islamic degrees "art" degrees? (e.g. you have a BA and MA)

When we study Islamic subjects, we talk about "sciences of the qur'an," "the science of hadith" etc. but then the digree comes out as an "art" degree.

Also, art is generally something very subjective, relative, with not that many rules as to what is "right/wrong" or "good/bad," not very highly structured etc. However, Islam is total oposite of this, and yet they call Islamic degrees an "art" degrees. I am curous as to why is this so.

If anyone else also knows, please answer.
